Next Step in the WWW is computers knowing our thoughts
The internet has taken many steps since being introduced with web 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0. Each of which has its own advantages to the everyday users. The people whom started the Web did not know how to expand its horizons and make the Web interactive to its users. That is why looking back on the Web is so outdated, its like looking at a page and saying to yourself ok i have the information now what? What if i want to review something from this company? send them an email? buy something? none of this could be done with Web 1.0 enter Web 2.0. In my opinion Web 2.0 helps users be social and have their voices be heard. This is a Web in which we all can participate in as well as companies, it is not so static and boring so to speak. It does this in the form of Wiki's, social networking and etc, in today's society people want to have a say in everything and this is what in my opinion allows people to do, be more vocal. As opposed to looking at a website for example a blog is interactive and the maker of the blog puts the content on when they choose. This compares to originally with Web 1.0 by a blog was not created yet and the user would have to go to a personal page to access, and put out new information. Web 2.0 makes it a lot easier for everyone involved, basically it is more user friendly. This leads to the next question what is Web 3.0? In my opinion this focuses more on the database itself. So many times people have tried to look something up for research and the database gives them a million pages some of which are helpful but a lot of them are pointless. You are in the limits of the computer, because their is so much information on the internet it can not decipher what exactly one wants to look up it just focuses on key words. People believe the video on YouTube explained it perfectly in simple words the change from web 2.0 to 3.0, it will go from passively helping to actively helping. the Web will depend more on the meaning of what is being searched also known as semantics, as opposed to symentrics. The Web 2.0 did live up too the hype when it grew out of Web 1.0. Although it took a while for it to happen users can now use links, and websites as well as companies whom are asking for feedback and with Web 2.0 they can now receive that, through the means of a computer, and not just information.Web 2.0 has provided the World Wide Web with dynamic interactive pages, people can now read and write web and further their careers where you could not in Web 1.0. This is a positive thing for people all across the world.
The direction in which Web 3.0 will take us is the search engines, and things in which you search will be more direct, and detailed in its searches. It may take a while to happen with Web 3.0 but the fact that technologists want to connect people is an advantage in itself. This may take a long time to happen because the same exact thing happened with the transition from 1.0 to 2.0. So users might get frustrated with the process that is a negative effect 3.0 may have in the future.
Web 1.0-Web 3.0 How We Got This Far
When Web 1.0 was introduced it was new to many people technologists included, it was very simple basic information the bare minimum. Imagine a world where you could not type something into a search engine to help with basic information. That was what Web 1.0 was developers wanted in the worst way to engage the public in the information to get feedback, enter Web 2.0. Although it took many years to get to this point the public is extremely happy it got there. Users can now pinpoint what they want to do and now know where to get the information. While not always credible the information presented helps the everyday user.
Web 1.0 was an information based idea like a Brochure this was a huge step for businesses because it brought about a sense of exposure to it. Web 2.0 was known as the first real Web as many refer to it brought about a sense of excitement because users can now interact with one another, and contribute to content where before it was just the businesses themselves. Web 3.0 differs from the other Web .0's because the searching of information as opposed to the World Wide Web as a whole. Databases such as Google, Yahoo, Bing, sure help users but where is the principal of exact searches and not meaningless information. This will make searches clearer, and more exact.
It is amazing how far technology has come in the last 30 years. With all three of the Web .0's there is a distinctive function in which you can tell. This website is an example of what Web 2.0 has brought to us. The Evolution of Web 3.0 will bring us more things, but it is not much different from the Web we know now. What Web 2.0 does for example is the Website Pandora you can choose a station to the music that interests you. Another couple minutes go by and it says at the bottom of the screen recommended for you. This is based off of other users interests as well. sites such as Amazon, YouTube, and Spotify have used this idea to enhance the users experience and also get more buys, views, and listens. While this is a step in the right direction Web 3.0 will even further these ideas because it will now go through a series of machines or computers as opposed to people which will enhance results of what is being searched.
When people started the internet they had not known the possibliities. It is insane to think we are now focusing on people and their own preferences. As opposed to just the technology itself, in our lifetime one can only imagine what Web 4.0, and 5.0 will be like. Will it be pointless to even search, because the computer will already know what we want, we will see what the future holds for the internet. If people truely think about the possibilities of the Web the results may be frightening.
